What We Will Not Do
We work on garage doors and the hardware that moves them: torsion and extension springs, openers, tracks, rollers, cables, and panels. We don't do general handyman work, and we don't touch electrical wiring beyond the opener circuit itself. If a door is far enough gone that patching it means you're back to square one in a year, we'll tell you that instead of billing you for a repair that won't hold.
Most of the houses we get called to around here were built between 1979 and 1991, and that median year of 1985 means a lot of original hardware still hanging on torsion springs sized for doors that have since been swapped or insulated differently. We won't force a spring rated for a lighter door onto a heavier replacement panel just to save a trip back out. That's how cables snap.
We also won't quote a job blind over the phone if we haven't seen the door. A stuck opener can mean a burnt-out motor, a bad sensor, or a spring so far gone the opener is straining against dead weight, and those are three different bills. We'd rather look at it than guess.

That matters here because the cold does specific damage: in a climate this severe, steel contracts, lubricant thickens, and a spring that was already fatigued from age often finally lets go on the coldest morning of the week, not gradually.
Once we're at the address, we look at the door before we touch it, hardware, track alignment, spring wear, opener condition, and give you a number before any work starts. No guessing after the fact. If parts need ordering, we tell you that up front too instead of leaving you to find out when the job runs long.

The housing stock we see most, mostly 1980s and 90s construction across the two main areas we cover, tends to share the same generation of doors and openers, which means we're usually working on hardware we recognize rather than something custom or unusual.

Median household income here runs about $92,045, and that's part of why we try to give a straight repair-versus-replace answer instead of pushing whichever job pays more.

Do you work on doors outside Bismarck itself?
Yes. We cover the surrounding area including Mandan, about 6 miles out, and Menoken, roughly 11 miles away. If you're further out than that, call and ask, we can often still make it work.
Can you fix an opener from the 1980s or does it need replacing?
Depends on what's failed. A lot of the houses we work on were built between 1979 and 1991, so we see a lot of original or first-replacement openers. If parts are still available, we repair. If the motor's shot and parts aren't out there anymore, we'll tell you straight and talk replacement instead.
